The Triumph Of AJ Quartermaine
Building Families
The suite Carly has the radio on and is playing with Michael. Playing on the radio... My Girl Josephine a cover of the Fats Domino original by reggae star Supercat. The strong beat is irresistible and Carly starts moving to the music.
HOO HOO HOO
Hello Josephine
How do you do?
Do you remember me baby
Like I remember you?
You used to laugh at me
And holler "hoo hoo hoo"
Carly picks Michael up and starts dancing around the room with him. Singing along with the hoo hoo hoo's as she gives Michael a dip and some Eskimo kisses that sets him to giggling.
I used to walk you home
I used to hold your hand
You used to use my umbrella
Every time it rained
You used to cry so much
It was a cryin' shame
With a shimmy and a shake, Carly then stands Michael on the table and supporting him starts doing a little twist before sweeping him off the table and twirling around again. The pulsing rhythm of the song sets her to rocking and Michael to laughing.
You used to live over yonder
By the railroad track
When it rained you couldn't walk
I used to tote you on my back
Carly starts as she feels a hand at her back. AJ has returned and starts dancing with her and Michael. She had been so caught up in the song that she hadn't heard him come in.
Now ...
Hello Josephine
How do you do?
Do you remember me baby
Like I remember you?
You used to laugh at me
And holler "hoo hoo hoo"
"Hey Mr. Man, mind if I cut in on the next one?" AJ takes Michael and giving him a hug and a kiss sets him in the playpen and then reaches out to take Carly's hand. She reluctantly takes his hand and waits for the next song to start playing. She tries to withdraw when she realizes it is a slow song
At last
My love has come along
my lonely days are over
and life is like a song
oh yeah yeah
AJ pulls Carly close his arms circling her waist. Her hands go around his neck as their dancing slows.
at last
the skies above are blue
my heart was wrapped up in clover
the night I looked at you.
AJ's hand slips in the gap between Carly's top and jeans his hand in the middle of her back. She gasps as the heat in the middle of her back spreads through her.
I found a dream
that I could speak to
a dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
I thrill that I had never known
oh yeah
you smile
you smile
AJ starts nuzzling at her neck. Carly 's head moves automatically to the side giving him access to her neck and her eyes close. They are barely moving. AJ's other hand comes up to Carly's cheek rubbing his thumb along her jaw. Their lips meet, and AJ deepens the kiss, drawing Carly in.
oh and then the spell was cast
and here we are in heaven
for you are mine
at last.
The music stops but the kiss doesn't until Michael starts rattling around in his playpen breaking the mood. Carly withdraws and going over to the stereo turns it off. She sighs then presses her lips together before saying with a flustered and rushed tone in her voice. "Well I think that we should get out of here. What do you think Mr. Man? Want to go paint the town?"
"Carly..."
"How did it go with Tracy?" Carly's eyes plea for him to drop it.
AJ sighs. "I have her proxy but I feel like I need a shower." A cold one, he thinks to himself.
"I really should call Bobbie. She and Lucas got back from the clinic yesterday. She's probably out of her mind by now. When she left I was living in the brownstone and now I don't even know my address."
AJ rubs the back of his neck suddenly tired. "Why don't you do that. I'll take a shower and then we'll figure out something to do. We'll be back in Port Charles on Saturday night. If you want once we get back we can make arrangements for her to come over and see the new place." AJ loosens his tie and looking back over his shoulder for a moment at Carly who is refusing to meet his gaze he sighs and heads into the other room.
Carly pulls out AJ's cell phone from his overcoat and dials the number by memory. Foot tapping impatiently, she listens to the ring, getting ready to hang up since the machine was going to pick up on the next one...
"Hello--"
"Jerry? Where's my mom?" Carly inquires worried.
"I think the question on everyone's mind is where the hell are you, little girl."
"Hey-- you may be knocking boots with my mother every chance you get but that doesn't make you my father; so just shut the hell up okay? Where is Bobbie?"
"Sotted. Jason told her the truth." Carly winces at Jerry's flat reply.
"I was hoping to be the one. I knew that she got back last night."
"Where are you, Caroline? Specifically-- not just New York, Not just with AJ. I can be there in an hour to pick you up."
"Jerry, don't ask me that. Michael and I'll be back in two days. I promised AJ that I wouldn't tell anyone. I'll come see Bobbie first thing."
"You picked a fine time to start keeping promises."
"There is too much riding on this one. Can I speak to Bobbie, please?" Carly pleads.
"Fine, but remember she's upset so don't hold her to all that she says." Jerry hands the phone to Bobbie who had become increasingly interested in Jerry's call as it drug on.
"Caroline?"
"Mama, please don't be mad at me. I did what I had to do. I did it for Michael."
"That isn't going to fly, Caroline. You lied to me again. For as long as my grandson has been alive You've been lying to me. I thought that we were getting closer that we were over all this. I thought that we'd turned a corner; I was starting to trust you... more fool me I guess." Bobbie wipes away a tear.
Carly starts sobbing. "No, I do trust you, mama; I would have told you. I promise I would have. The time just never seemed right and I didn't want to lose you again."
"You still don't get it. Caroline, we are Spencers whatever happens we stick together. I can be mad as hell at you... and trust me I am, but we are Family. I am so sick of both you and Luke keeping me in the dark like a damn mushroom. I shouldn't have to find out what is going on in my daughter's life from a damn televised basketball game or from Jason."
"I'll tell you everything I promise just as soon as I get back to Port Charles. Please, mama, just this once be on my side. I need you. I need you. please..." AJ takes the phone from Carly.
"Bobbie?"
"AJ, what have you done to my daughter? I want her and my grandson home now."
"It was Carly's choice to come here, Bobbie, and I don't think she wants to leave although she always has that option."
"And what are you holding over her head, you snake?"
"Is that anyway to talk to the father of your grandson? I was hoping that we could have a positive relationship, Grandma." AJ taunts feeling provoked.
"AJ, please don't." Carly reaches for AJ's arm. "You know I'm staying. We still have things to do here in town." Carly presses herself against AJ. Bobbie overhears everything that Carly has said to AJ.
"AJ put Carly back on the phone. I want to speak to my daughter."
"Not if you're going to upset her. Bobbie, we'll be back in town on Saturday. My plan up until now was to make sure that you were the first people to visit us at our new house. Don't make me regret that. I have no desire to separate Carly from her family ... from the Spencers, but I deserve this time with my son and I'm taking it. Carly and I have an agreement. She doesn't cut me out of my son's life any more and I don't cut her out either. You see what can be accomplished without disruptive influences?"
"AJ, give Carly the phone. This pulling the phone away whenever you don't like the way the conversation is going is just as controlling as you accuse Jason of being."
AJ hands the phone back to Carly. "Wow, you'd think that she raised you, she has the art of the low blow honed."
"Mama?"
"Caroline, I don't like this. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, Bobbie; I swear I am. Michael's great; we've been all over the city with him. But I'm staying out of cabs from now on. Mama, I could drive better." Carly babbles on.
"What do I tell Jason?"
"Tell everyone that I love them and I'll be home soon." Carly makes sure that she doesn't mention Jason's name aloud and then disconnects the call.
