The Triumph Of AJ Quartermaine
Chapter One
Robin's jaw drops at AJ's reply.
"How stupid do you think I am? Of course it's my baby. I've known since I spoke with Carly in the hospital. The question is my dear port charles queen of angels... How long have you known? Carly and Jason I understand all too well but how do you justify your lie?"
"You're blaming me...ME?!"
"I thought that you didn't know. But I bet you've known all along haven't you, Robin?" AJ moves in closer getting in Robin's face. "All this time you have been so sanctimonious about Jason and Michael but now, now you tell me. Let me guess why-- Jason picked Carly. You are so pitiful. You're halo is definitely tipping, little girl."
"It was the right thing to do... telling you I mean." Robin stutters.
"Of course it is. It would have been the right thing to do back when you found out. Back when I was trying to convince the family that Micheal was my child and was ignored and belittled." AJ's voice raises as his ire grows. "Back then a little help from the fountain of truth would have gone long way to me being able to see my SON. This little confirmation means nothing now coming from a woman scorned. No one will believe you."
"But why... why have you waited, why haven't you confronted them?" Robin whispers wiping away a trail of tears.
"Because I knew that I wasn't strong enough to fight all of them: Jason and the family. Everyone wants this baby to be Jason's so bad that their collective heads are buried in the sand. But I'm almost ready. I'll have it all-- my son, elq, and CARLY."
"Carly! Why do you want Carly after everything that she's done to you! AJ, she took your child; she made everyone think you were drinking-- including you."
"You still don't get it, do you? My son and his mother are a package deal; they always have been. My mistake in this was threatening Carly with sole custody. I should have known she'd run to Jason then. She always did. She was running to Jason when Michael was conceived. I was just trying to get her away from Tony."
"But you could have gotten Michael... after Carly shot Tony. She was in no position to fight you."
"Why would I punish Carly for something that I wish I had done myself? Carly knows that her methods weren't mine but we share the same antipathy to Dr Jones. Yet another reason for me to not lift a finger for you, Robin. I can't believe you supported Tony. If Tony would have gotten away with Michael I would have never been able to find my son. And you set him free to try again."
"Carly destroyed Tony; she is the one that made him crazy."
"And he returned the favor, didn't he? This is the man that you have so much sympathy for? I have to wonder I really do why Jason puts up with you. Lord knows he couldn't trust you. As soon as his back was turned you were defending the person that kidnapped Michael. Hell you were letting his worst enemy babysit Michael. And now look at you betraying him again. No wonder he picked Carly."
"Carly was faking! She was never crazy."
"Really?!" AJ laughs "That's my girl."
Robin runs her hands through her short locks in frustration and dismay. "I don't believe you... you admire her. She is trash, AJ; she destroys people-- uses them."
"You have no room to talk, Robin-- none. You have used my son to get next to Jason for the last year. You have USED my son to form your own sick little family. You just deluded yourself into believing that Carly would tolerate that any more than I would. Or did you always plan on destroying Jason by exposing this lie?"
"I love Jason, and he loves me. He'll understand what I am doing."
AJ smiles. "I guess you have deluded yourself about my brother as well. Jason will never forgive you for this. It won't matter to him even if you tell him that I already knew. Jason will see right through this pitiful effort." AJ shrugs. "He might have forgiven you if you had told from the start then he could have gotten legal custody of Michael all tied up and he wouldn't even have to worry about me now. But your delusions have given me all the time I need to be able to fight him and the family. By this time next week Carly will be with me."
